The job:   A well-established and highly respected provider of information and services for professionals involved in the management and development of people, is planning to appoint an experienced and resourceful Commissioning Manager, who will play a key role in developing, implementing and maintaining an editorial strategy for their publishing programme and activities. Reporting to the Publishing Manager, the person appointed will be responsible for the profitability and financial contribution of all portfolios in the department, coordinating and developing new products, commissioning and negotiating terms with authors, overseeing all stages of product development, monitoring progress, plus quality and cost control, and maintaining schedules. The Commissioning Manager will also be responsible for leading the editorial team, and will work closely with the sales and marketing and operations teams on the strategic development of the publishing programme.
NB:  this is a maternity leave cover post for approx. 11 months

The person: Candidates will need to be Graduates, and able to demonstrate first-class editorial and project management skills and experience, preferably gained within a professional publishing environment, and will ideally have a sound background in commissioning a text book list aimed at higher/further education qualifications or a professional publishing programme, preferably within an HR/business or related field, plus good knowledge of list management, project development and production procedures. Well-developed financial and budget management experience, and an excellent eye for detail, together with highly practical strategic planning and organisational ability, confident communication skills, and the ability to make a positive contribution to team-working, are all essential requirements for this significant post.

Salary:  In the range £35k - £40k pa (pro rata), depending on level of experience.
