The job: A leading Educational publisher with a strong reputation for providing cutting edge print and electronic learning products is seeking to appoint a Commissioning Editor for their innovative Science list. This excellent role would suit a talented and committed individual who would enjoy working for an ambitious company which is passionate about providing fully integrated print, online, mobile and CD rom learning resources and is already a market leading provider at KS3. Working together with the Publishing Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the long term financial and publishing plans of the science list. Managing two editors, they will oversee projects from start to finish, including commissioning, developing and managing a range of products and choosing the best authors to fulfil requirements. Fully understanding the needs of pupils and teachers will be key, and will require thorough research to determine which products will be most successful in driving the scientific publishing strategy.  This will involve spending time in the classroom, visiting LEAs and attending exhibitions and conferences.

The person: Educated to degree level, candidates will need a solid educational publishing background and in-depth expertise of the curriculum and marketplace. A relevant scientific qualification is highly desirable, as is experience of commissioning and delivering innovative integrated print and electronic content. Financial knowledge and business management skills are also required and should be accompanied by a strong strategic focus. Candidates will need excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills and good people management abilities. The role will suit an experienced, proactive, opinionated and creative editor with the drive to work with education professionals to develop a leading, range of innovative products for the 21st century classroom.

Salary: Excellent salary depending on experience.
