Springer shakes up sales

German academic giant Springer has reorganised its worldwide STM business into global and local publishing. The sales and marketing operations have been split, with the sales team now organised geographically, while marketing is be more closely aligned to publishing.

STM Global Publishing will be headed up by Peter Hendriks, who was president and c.e.o of Kluwer Academic prior to its merger with Springer in 2004. Hendricks was most recently in charge of all sales and marketing activities for Springer. He replaces Rüdiger Gebauer, who left the company at the end of July to start his own publishing company.

Sven Fund, who currently oversees Springer's architecture lists, will manage local STM activities in France, Switzerland and Austria. Andreas Kösters who until recently has been responsible for Springer's B2B publishing activities, will now manage the local STM businesses in Asia and the Americas as well as the non-German-language medicine and pharma operations.

STM Global Sales will no longer be divided into trade and library sales. Syed Hasan will manage STM Global Sales activities in the Americas and Peter Coebergh will head up STM Global Sales activities in all other countries.
