Denton ends ArgentVive offer talks
09.06.08 Anna Richardson
Charles Denton, deputy chairman of ArgentVive, no longer intends to make an offer to buy the company. ArgentVive, formerly known as SamedayBooks, announced in February that Denton was planning to take the business into private ownership. He recently informed the board, however, that he no longer wanted to proceed. Denton remains the company's largest shareholder with a 41.4% holding.
In a statement issued today (9th June), ArgentVive added that information provider Solcara, which it bought last December, and Waterside Books, were "both trading in line with management expectations", but that the company's other activities were "currently trading below budget".
The board was "considering various options and alternatives for the group", which also owns recently launched BookRabbit.com, in light of "challenging trading conditions".
