Harper to build Hodder's Iles
HarperFiction hopes to build thriller writer Greg Iles into an event author after beating three publishers to the rights of the next two books from the Hodder author.
Publishing director Wayne Brookes paid a "good six figure sum" for UK and Commonwealth rights to the books from agent Abner Stein. The first book of the acquisition, as yet untitled, will be published in hardback in summer 2009. "Publishing a Greg Iles novel should be an event, and that's what HarperCollins aim to create," said Brookes. "Greg writes incredibly atmospheric thrillers with a real southern gothic twist and he's like no other author in the genre. I'm ecstatic that he's made the move to HarperCollins."
