Ambitious plans for Book Aid
Book Aid International's director Clive Nettleton announced plans to raise a record £5m over the next three years at an event held by the charity at the London Review Bookshop on Monday (8th September).
Nettleton said Book Aid intends to increase the number of books it sends overseas from 500,000 per year to 750,000 within two years.
The charity's new strategy also includes increased support for public, community and educational libraries in sub-Saharan Africa, and backing for improvements to primary education in the region. Harriet Miyato, programme co-ordinator for the NGO Zambia Open Community Schools, travelled to the UK to speak at the event.
Novelist Sebastian Faulks also paid tribute to the work done by Book Aid.
