Cold water poured on UK Kindle launch?

Anyone hoping for an imminent UK launch of Amazon's Kindle could be disappointed after a technology website revealed the supposed design of the latest version lacks UK support.

Computer Buyer reports that while screenshots of the device leaked onto the internet last week, it appears that the device is still not designed for use in the United Kingdom. "It continues to use Sprint’s EV-DO network for media downloads, which means that it will not function in the UK in its current form," it says. "The previous version reader has never been released in the UK."

The supposed new Kindle has an increased internal memory and a mini USB power adaptor port as well as being slightly larger than the first generation device, which went on sale last November.

However, the Irish Times, in a wider article about e-book readers, claims that the Kindle will actually go on sale in the United Kingdom before Christmas.
