Books by David Baddiel and Sue Hendra were amongst the winners of the first Laugh Out Loud Awards (The Lollies) for funny children’s books.
The Parent Agency by David Baddiel and Jim Field (HarperCollins Children’s Books) won the prize for the ‘best laugh out loud book for 9-13 year olds’, whilst I Need a Wee! by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet (Simon & Schuster Children’s) was given the ‘best laugh out loud picture book’ award.
The prize for ‘Best Laugh Out Loud Book for 6-8 year olds’ went to Badly Drawn Beth by Jem Packer and Duncan McCoshan (Orchard Books).
The Lollies judges: film producer Will Clarke, YouTuber AmyLee33, comedian Jenny Éclair and author Michael Rosen.
The winners were announced today (21st June) at a ceremony in London, presented by CBBC Sam and Mark. They each won a trophy and prize money of £2,500.
The Lollies were launched by Scholastic in October, following the demise of the Roald Dahl Funny Book.
The shortlists were chosen by a team of judges, led by head judge Michael Rosen, then the winners were picked by school children.
The awards are sponsored by Hasbro and supported by Book Trust and This Book is Funny.
