International Book Giving Day's official 2016 poster, designed by children's author and illustrator, Ben Newman, has been revealed today (6th January).
International Book Giving Day is an initiative aimed at getting new, used and borrowed books into the hands of children by encouraging people to give books on Valentine's Day (14th February). The poster will be used across social media to highlight the event. The image will also be used on bookplates and bookmarks for participants to download, print and tuck into the books they give on 14th February 2016.
The poster features the whimsical characters of a cat in a space suit holding an International Book Giving Day book and a mouse holding a Valentine's card.
“Ben’s vibrant and contemporary style is a perfect fit for this lovely and enjoyable international event,” a spokesperson for the initiative said.
Newman has produced work for a large range of clients, including the Tate Modern, New York Times, BBC Radio 4 and Google. He collaborates with scientist Dr Dominic Walliman on the Professor Astro Cat children’s books which are published by Flying Eye Books.
