Author Kit Caless has launched a book prize in conjunction with pub chain J D Wetherspoon, inspired by his recently released Spoon's Carpets: An Appreciation (Square Peg).
The Spoon’s Carpets Novel Award seeks to find the best novel to read in a pub.
Caless told The Bookseller: "I want to celebrate the novel. I love novels. The idea for Spoon's Carpets came directly from reading a novel (Will Wiles' The Way Inn, Fourth Estate) when I was in a pub. I've been fortunate enough to get my book out there in the public eye, so I want to celebrate other people's books at the same time.
"Pubs and reading go together so well. There's sometimes nothing better than finding a cosy chair in a warm pub, drinking a pint or glass of wine and getting lost in a good book. With this humble prize, we can celebrate that."
The Spoon’s Carpets Novel Award will award the winning author £100 cash, plus a trophy.
The person who nominated the winning book will receive a £100 Wetherspoons' Gift Card, plus five Square Peg books chosen at random. The winner will also receive some free novels of Caless’ choosing.
To nominate a novel and for more information visit the prize's website.
The award will be announced on the 15th December.
