Digital publisher Canelo has hired Corvus editor Louise Cullen as its editorial director.
Cullen has been editor for the Atlantic Books’ commercial fiction imprint for two years, working with authors such as Cesca Major, Carrie Elks, Sanjida Kay, Rosie Blake and Michael Ridpath.
She also headed up projects including the re-launch of Scandi-crime author Anne Holt's backlist and publishing the debut novel of Love at First Write competition winner Sophie Cousens while at Corvus.
At Canelo, Cullen is briefed with building an e-book list featuring new, established and reissued commercial fiction.
Iain Millar, managing director at Canelo, said: “We have been thoroughly impressed by Louise’s editorial focus, taste, and by her unstinting desire to maximise the potential of every book she works on. Her vision for our list is truly outstanding.”
Michael Bhaskar, publishing director, added: “From the moment we met Louise we knew she had a brilliant commercial eye, a fantastic understanding of books and writing and a sense of how they work in a fast-moving market. Everything, in other words, one could hope for in digital publishing, so we’re thrilled to announce her appointment. At Canelo we have big ambitions – and can’t wait to work with Louise on realising them.”
Cullen said Canelo was a “dynamic and forward-thinking publisher” and the move to join them was “impossible to resist”.
“Canelo has achieved a huge amount already and I plan to build on the company’s success by developing a first-rate commercial fiction list for 2017, seeking talented new authors as well as promising backlist opportunities,” she said.
