The Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) has acquired London-based publishing solutions company Ixxus.
The CCC, which provides collective copyright licensing services, acquired the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) company to enable the companies to draw on complementary expertise and create "powerful new offerings" for clients. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
The ECM market is expected to grow by 15% annually from $5.5bn in 2014 to more than $9.4bn in 2018, according to the The Radicati Group.
Ixxus, now a wholly-owned subsidiary of CCC, has worked with publishing and media companies including Pearson, Penguin Random House, Oxford University Press, Cengage Learning and Reed Elsevier, and has offices in the UK, US, Spain and Romania.
Tracey Armstrong, president and c.e.o. for the CCC, said: “Content is at the center of every conversation we have with our customers. Ixxus and CCC have extensive experience, know-how, talent, and relationships in complementary areas. Ixxus’ content management expertise and services combined with CCC’s rights management expertise and license products will enable us to create powerful new offerings that our clients are asking for.”
Steve Odart, founder and co-c.e.o. for Ixxus, added: "Ixxus is recognized as a leading authority on all things content. Our work with respected global publishers, including Wiley and Pearson, gives us unrivalled experience within the field. As part of CCC, we’re now able to address critical rights licensing challenges for current and future customers and develop solutions to support global business transformation.”
The CCC has said it will continue to expand its presence in the publishing market through ongoing product development and sales of its RightsLink® permissions and author services SaaS products.
