Century has acquired The Art of Fire by Daniel Hume in an overnight pre-empt to publish this November.
Positioned as the next logical book-buy for readers who have learned the art of stacking from Lars Mytting's Norwegian Wood, according to Century The Art of Fire taps into the same trend for "practical mindfulness".
Ajda Vucicevic, senior editor at Century, acquired world English rights from Rory Scarfe of Furniss Lawton.
The Art of Fire is intended as a "practical" guide exploring the different ways fires can be conjured as well as "the human experience of making a fire", informed by Hume’s teaching, travels, and adventures. Hume is an instructor at Ray Mears' outdoor adventure empire and an expert on bush craft and the art of survival in the wild.
Hume said: "I fell in love with fire and the natural world as a young boy and my passion for discovering more about conjuring fire and its uses in different cultures has taken me to the wildest corners of our globe. I am thrilled to be sharing my knowledge and journey in The Art of Fire and to be working with the wonderful team at Century.”
Vucicevic said: “The moment this book came to me I knew I had to buy it. There’s something so magical and awe inspiring about the art of making a good fire that I know this book will find many fans.”
The Art of Fire: The Joy of Tinder, Spark and Ember will be published in gardback on 2nd November 2017.
