Human rights campaigner Shami Chakrabarti is publishing a new book with Allen Lane this October, Of Women, making the case for "radical positive action in every sphere of life to promote the vindication of the rights of women worldwide".
In Of Women, Chakrabarti will detail how global gender injustice continues to impact health, wealth, education, representation, opportunity and security in the 21st century, arguing it is an "ancient and continuing wrong that is millennial in duration and global in reach" that "only radical solutions can even scratch the surface of".
As such, the book will outline "what needs fixing" as well as include proposals for how we can put gender justice at the heart of the progressive political agenda.
Chakrabarti, former director of Liberty (2003-16), is Labour's Shadow Attorney General, a member of the House of Lords, and the author of On Liberty (Allen Lane), a book about human rights violations published in 2014.
On Liberty has sold 18,145 print copies for £224,857 to date through Nielsen BookScan. However, Penguin Books was forced to pay an undisclosed sum in 2015 in compensation to the former director general of legal services at the Ministry of Defence, Martin Hemming, following libel proceedings in response to allegations made in the book.
Chakrabarti's new title is due for release, at £20, on 26th October 2017.
