Coronet is publishing a book by the author of the award-winning parenting blog Hurrah for Gin.
The book about parenting of the same name, Hurrah for Gin, will be an "honest" illustrated account of life with young children and is for "imperfectly perfect parents". Without any pretence to "useful advice", its author, successful blogger and mum-of-two Katie Kirby, will regale readers with "tales from the parenting frontline" that embrace "the exciting, frustrating, infuriating and wonderful whirlwind of parenthood". The book will be illustrated with Kirby's own stick men drawings depicting "the reality of parenting".
Editorial director Charlotte Hardman acquired the book in a world all languages deal directly with the author. Coronet will publish Hurrah for Gin as a small format hardback right into the heart of the Christmas gift season on 6th October 2016.
Hardman said: “As a parent of two young boys myself, I didn’t get on too well with the restrictive advice on offer from baby experts and like many parents I’ve sometimes wondered, maybe even panicked a little on my third waking in a night, at why my children don’t conform to “the norm”. Discovering Katie was a breath of fresh air as the stories she tells are experiences that all parents recognise from their own chaotic adventures through parenting and she illustrates with hilarious accuracy the realities of family life."
Kirby, described by the Daily Mail as "a hero for frazzled parents", said: “Through my blog I try to share the funny and raw sides of raising children in a positive way and my readers often message me to say it has cheered them up after a hard day. I think that’s really important and as such it is dream come true to work with Coronet and extend my writing into book form. I am a firm believer that although parenting can be hard work it is better to laugh at the challenges than let them bring you down.”
Kirby's blog, Hurrah for Gin, attracts hundreds of thousands of views per month and has received over 2.75m views since its launch in 2013 and Kirby currently has 129,000 fans on Facebook.
