Laurence King Publishing has appointed Charlotte Coulais in the newly created, in-house role of lead designer for gifts.
The appointment marks an "important step" in the growth of LKP’s gift list, which will account for 25% of the publishing house’s overall output in 2017.
Originally from France, Coulais graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2007, before working with branding agencies Wolff Olins and Winkreative. Coulais also runs her own design studio, En Ville.
Reporting to Marc Valli, commissioning editor and head of gift, Coulais will work as the lead designer on key LKP gift products. She will also play a central role in the development of new ideas and sourcing new illustrators.
Marc Valli, commissioning editor and head of gift at LKP, said: “Since 2011 we have been working hard to create a list of imaginative and unique gifts, trying to make each one as culturally relevant and aesthetically rich as our books. Charlotte’s exceptional experience as a designer and creative thinker will be an invaluable asset in taking our gift list on to the next level, raising the bar even higher in terms of the overall design and the visual coherence of the list. We are thrilled to welcome her to the LKP team.”
Key LKP gift titles for Spring 2017 include: Hipstory Postcard Book: Why Be a World Leader When You Could Have Been a Hipster? (Feb 2017); Lord of the Wings: A Bird Trump Game by Christine Berrie (Mar 2017); Dazzleship Battleships (Feb 2017); Tatouage: Blossom: 102 Temporary Tattoos of Flowers & Plants and Tatouage: Wild 108 Temporary Tattoos of Wild Animals (April 2017).
