James Dashner, author of the Maze Runner series, is offering his fans the chance to see their name in his next book The Fever Code via a new twitter competition, launched today (7th September).
The Fever Code, which will be published by Chicken House next year, is a prequel to Dashner’s bestselling Maze Runner series and fans could see a character named after themselves if they win the #ScorchMaze competition, an online adventure game that asks players to choose between various options on the Maze Runner Books twitter account.
Players are first asked whether they want to use the ‘gun’ or the ‘knife’. Each option takes the player to a new decision (and a new twitter page). For example, one question is “a crank leers at you from the shadows, ready to pounce. Do you @smk_use_knife or go to @smk_traintunnel”. If the players go wrong they are sent back to the beginning to start again.
However, if they choose all the right options, the players must at the end retweet a final message to be in with the chance to have their name in The Fever Code. Winners will also receive a signed limited hardback edition of The Scorch Trials.
Chicken House is planning an extensive marketing campaign for The Fever Code, including online advertising, social media activity and print advertising in cinemas, WH Smith and Waterstones.
A film of the first book in the series, The Maze Runner, was released in the UK last year and the second film, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, is out later this month (18th September).
