Holtzbrinck technology company Digital Science has opened a subsidiary company in Moscow.
Digital Science & Research LLC will be led by country c.e.o. Dr Igor Osipov, who has held senior management positions in STM education and publishing, recently with Elsevier. Osipov will be responsible for driving growth in Russia and neighbouring countries including Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He has concurrently been appointed as Digital Science’s vice president for Academic and Government, providing research metrics expertise across Europe and EMEA funder and government sectors.
Digital Science c.e.o. Daniel Hook said: “Digital Science is known for its focus on helping researchers, institutions, funders and government bodies work more efficiently in every stage of their research cycle, and today’s announcement is an important development for us as we establish our footprint in Russia. Dr Osipov’s experience both internationally and in Russia, his work with the University of the Arctic, his understanding of research metrics, as well as his hands-on experience as a university research make him uniquely qualified to take Digital Science into Russia at a time when the country is fundamentally reforming and investing in its research infrastructure.”
Osipov added: “Current Russian research and science policy is centred around enhancing the international reputation of Russian institutions by localising best global practices, increasing research activity, and accelerating internationalisation efforts. We see new world-class university research centres attracting students and faculty, increasing their scholarly collaboration, and participating in joint programmes with partners abroad. Now, with Digital Science’s portfolio of open science and cloud-based technology solutions aimed predominantly at the research landscape, we look forward to accelerating the Russian & CIS research community efforts to further raise its global profile.”
