Transworld has acquired Robert Iger’s untitled book on leadership and management, which explores the ideas, values, and growth strategies he has developed in his 11 years as c.e.o. of media company Disney, for publication in 2018.
Publishing director Doug Young acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Karolina Sutton at Curtis Brown on behalf of Esther Newberg at ICM Partners.
In his time as c.e.o. of Disney, Iger "strengthened and revitalised" Disney’s core businesses, made several key acquisitions such as Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, and recently completed a multi-billion-dollar theme park in China, 17 years in the making – achieving a "rare balance of creativity, business, and innovation", and establishing himself as "one of the most successful leaders of his generation". During his leadership of Disney, the company’s stock price has "nearly quadrupled", and Iger has recently been named c.e.o. of the year and the most powerful person in Hollywood.
Iger said: “For eleven years, I’ve had the privilege of running one of the world’s most well-known and admired companies, interacting with countless creative geniuses, innovators, and almost 200,000 enthusiastic, motivated employees – and all during a time of great challenge and opportunity. It takes a very different kind of leadership to manage a global brand in such a dynamic marketplace, and I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with readers. The experience of managing a company whose primary business is storytelling is a story unto itself.”
