Catalyst Global Media has optioned the film and TV rights to Cuckoo Song by YA author Frances Hardinge.
The media company, which produced Peter and Wendy for ITV, acquired the rights from Emily Hayward Whitlock at The Artists Partnership, in association with Nancy Miles at the Miles Stott Children's Literary Agency.
A spokesperson for Catalyst Global Media said: “We are thrilled to be adapting the rich and fantastical world that Frances has so vividly created. This astounding story has universal themes that will resonate with children and parents of all ages and make for a great communal viewing experience.”
Cuckoo Song, published by Macmillan Children’s Books, is an eerie story about a girl who wakes up after an accident to find that everything at home has changed. It was shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal in 2015.
Hardinge is also the author of The Lie Tree, which won the overall Costa Book of the Year award earlier this year.
