Wahaca restaurants will from this spring offer their customers children’s books to read after signing a brand partnership deal with publisher Flying Eye.
The publisher, whose author William Grill won the www.thebookseller.com/news/flying-eye-flying-high-after-cilip-win-307468">CILIP Kate Greenaway award in 2015, is providing the Mexican food chain with mini libraries in six of its London restaurants.
From spring half-term, Flying Eye will give Wahaca chains in Westfield White City, Islington, Wimbledon, Brixton and Kentish Town 30 books each. Titles will include Grill's Shackleton’s Journey and Professor Astrocat: Frontiers of Space by Dominic Walliman and Ben Newman, and Newman will take part in a series of book signings.
Children eating in Wahaca will also be given a Professor Astro Cat placemat activity sheet and a bookmark, as well as a QR code to get a 10% discount on books bought through the Flying Eye website.
M.d. Sam Arthur said: “A brand partnership with a Wahaca is a great way to introduce our books to a wider family audience. We feel we share a great deal of core values with Wahaca despite being in different business sectors. We pride ourselves on being an ethical company with a diverse range of well made colourful books for children hungry to learn, Wahaca and Flying Eye Books is therefore a great match.”
Flying Eye hopes to extend the partnership to all 20 of Wahaca’s restaurants at a later date, he added.
