Hachette Children's Group non-fiction imprint Wren & Rook has signed a three-book deal with pop culture illustrator Eve Lloyd Knight, with the first title celebrating the centenary of women in the UK winning the right to vote.
Rebel Voices: The Rise of Votes for Women written by Louise Kay Stewart and illustrated by Knight, will be published in January 2018 with the two further titles to follow in 2019 and 2020.
Senior editor Elizabeth Brent secured world rights directly with Knight. The content of the two subsequent titles will have “a similar social history slant on timely and important topics”.
The publisher said: “Knight has a particular interest in illustration with a campaigning angle; amongst other work, she illustrated signs for protestors on the Women’s March, which made her a natural fit for this project.”
Brent said: “We are thrilled to welcome unique image-maker Eve Lloyd Knight to the Wren & Rook list. Her texture-rich illustrations stylishly capture the timeline of women gaining the vote around the world in a visually brave and compelling way. This is an important and timely book that we are delighted to be publishing for the UK centenary celebrations.”
Knight also counts Grazia, Stylist, The Pool and the New York Times amongst her clients.
