Hachette UK is opening a sales and marketing office in Hong Kong, with Paul Kenny [pictured] previously of Pan Macmillan, joining in the new role of South East Asia sales and marketing manager.
The office will cover all territories in South East Asia excluding Singapore, Malaysia and China. Kenny will start his post on 17th September, and from that date can be contacted on paul.kenny@hachette.co.uk.
Hachette UK group commercial director Richard Kitson said: "The establishment of an office in Hong Kong is part of our ongoing strategy to develop and manage our sales operations in all our markets . . .
"With the market for English books in Asia flourishing, it is the perfect time to establish our own operation in the area and I am delighted that Paul Kenny, who has heaps of experience in publishing particularly in Asia, has agreed to join us. Paul will be in the UK for the week before Frankfurt to get to know his new UK colleagues and then he will join us in Frankfurt."
Kenny said: "It's incredibly exciting to take on this role for Hachette. Asia is, by far, the most dynamic market I've worked in. It's such a mix-rapidly changing, challenging and hugely enjoyable-and I love it. To then be asked to gather the range and depth of Hachette's lists together and represent them as a local face, is just brilliant."
Kenny began his career as a bookseller in Australia, and joined Pan Macmillan in Australia in 1994 and stayed there until 2008 working in various sales and marketing roles. Between 2008 and 2009 he worked as director of marketing and later director of brand and talent management at Guinness World Records in London, before returning to Pan Macmillan in 2009 and moving to Hong Kong to run their regional company in Asia. From August 2010 he was regional sales and marketing manager for Pan Macmillan Asia.
