HarperCollins has launched an internal careers website which gives News Corp employees the ability to apply for jobs across HarperCollins UK, News UK, and Dow Jones.
The internal recruitment portal, linking HCUK, News UK and Dow Jones will "make it possible to provide an unprecedented breadth of career opportunities to all News Corp employees, bringing the companies closer together and supporting a higher rate of engagement and retention of staff", a spokesperson for the publisher said.
HarperCollins UK c.e.o. Charlie Redmayne said: “This initiative takes advantage of News Corp’s greatest asset – brilliant people across a talented workforce. I hope it will encourage internal career progression and the cultivation of talent within HarperCollins and across the rest of our fellow News Corp companies.”
Director of people, John Athanasiou added: “HarperCollins is already a fantastic company to be a part of, so I’m delighted that our talented employees now have even more opportunities to expand their careers at our sister companies. I believe internal mobility will become ingrained in our culture, and contribute to further attraction and retention of the best people in the business.”
Athanasiou recently spoke at the Westminster Media Forum about "unconscious bias" in publishing being a "huge problem" for recruiters.
At the time, he said: “When we talk about diversity, it's important to think about the obvious but remember there are many different representations of it. Creativity is intrinsically linked to diversity. Our capacity to think up new concepts and solutions is limited by our views, experience and knowledge. This is why it is important to remember that when we talk about diversifying our industry we need to look at both inherent and acquired diversity, and we need to be attracting people from different backgrounds as well as industries and careers."
