HarperCollins India c.e.o. P M Sukumar is to depart the company, while the business is to report to HarperCollins UK c.e.o. Charlie Redmayne going forward.
Announcing the changes, HC president and c.e.o. Brian Murray said: "Sukumar has contributed substantially to HarperCollins India, leading a dynamic trade business over the last several years and adding the increasingly important Collins Education publishing programme in 2013. We are grateful for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavours."
The change of reporting line marks a return for HarperCollins India, which reported to former HC UK c.e.o. Victoria Barnsley until 2013 when – alongside HarperCollins Australia and HarperCollins New Zealand – it was transferred to the US, reporting to Murray.
Sukumar joined HarperCollins India in 2005, with his period at the helm seeing the business's transition from joint venture (with Living Media India) to wholly owned HarperCollins subsidiary in 2012. He will now be involved in the transition of the business back to the UK, with his replacement named "in the coming weeks."
Sukumar commented: "It has been an exciting and immensely satisfying journey at HarperCollins India and I have enjoyed working with the teams here and abroad."
