Hodder & Stoughton is publishing Parenting the Sh*t Out of Life this September by parenting bloggers Anna Whitehouse and Matt Farquharson, better known as Mother and Papa Pukka.
The "part memoir, part guide" uses a dual narrative, with each chapter written half by Whitehouse and half by Farquharson, to tell the story from both the mother and father's perspective and reveal "the highs, lows and hilarity of the modern parenting experience". It publishes as a hardback on 7th September.
The Pukkas began blogging and vlogging their parenting experiences two years ago, since which time their motto "parenting the shit out of life" has been hashtagged more than 33,000 times. Their podcast, "Dirty Mother Pukka", debuted at number three in the UK podcast charts this summer and they have amassed more than 130,000 followers on social media.
Publisher Hannah Black, who agreed a world rights deal with Abigail Bergstrom at Gleam Futures, hailed the book "timely and game-changing" and called the Pukkas "a brilliant, trailblazing force". The book will cover both the light and dark side of parenting and relationships, from picking a partner and "getting knocked-up" to miscarriage and their campaign for more flexible working for UK parents.
Whitehouse and Farquharson said: “We started vlogging because we were frustrated by the flurry of guilt-inducing bum-guff that is directed at modern parents. This is our effort to fight back a little bit, raise a few laughs along the way and reassure parents and parents-to-be that they too might be parenting the shit out of life, even if they don’t know it yet.”
