Bonnier imprint Blink Publishing has had to postpone the book tour for YouTube star Alfie Deyes’ The Pointless Book for health and safety reasons, after close to 8,000 people turned up to the first event at the weekend.
The Pointless Book, released on 4th September, is based on Deyes’ YouTube channel PointlessBlog, which has just under three million subscribers.
Close to 8,000 people turned up to the first stop on Deyes’ book tour at Waterstones Piccadilly on Saturday (6th September).
A spokesperson for Waterstones said: “The interest in Saturday’s Alfie Deyes event was unprecedented. Alfie did manage to meet over 800 fans on the day which made it our biggest signing of the year so far.”
A Blink spokesperson said: “Due to the overwhelming response and turn-out to Saturday’s book launch event for The Pointless Book at Waterstones Piccadilly, we are currently reviewing the rest of the scheduled Alfie Deyes’ book tour. Whether we aim for larger locations with greater capacities or make these events ticketed, our priority needs to be the health, safety and wellbeing of the general public. We want the tour to be a big success for book shops and for everything to run smoothly, ensuring at the same time that the expectations of Alfie and his fans are met.”
Deyes was due to attend signings this week at shops including WH Smith in Brighton on Thursday 11th September.
He apologised to fans on his Twitter account, and reassured them the tour would be rearranged.
