Jacaranda Books is to publish a memoir by the parents of teenager Trayvon Martin, who was fatally shot in Florida by a neighbourhood watch volunteer in 2012.
Jacaranda Books aquired UK, Commonwealth and European rights for Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin from US publisher Spiegel & Grau at auction.
Rest in Power will be published in February 2017 to coincide with what would have been Trayvon Martin’s 22nd birthday and in advance of the five-year anniversary of his death.
In 2012, Trayvon Martin was shot through the chest and killed as he returned home from the local store. Through Rest in Power, Fulton and Martin reveal the true story of their son’s life, his tragic death and the campaign for justice that later gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Jacaranda Books founder and publisher Valerie Brandes said: "We are so honoured to be publishing Rest in Power. This book gives the stirring, intimate background to the story that made global headlines. This is a story that has hit home throughout the Diaspora and we look forward to publishing it for readers here in the UK."
Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin will be published on 1st February 2017, priced at £12.99.
