Quercus mass market publisher Jo Dickinson will join Simon & Schuster as publishing director for fiction in December.
Dickinson worked at Little, Brown for 13 years, becoming fiction publisher for the Sphere and Piatkus lists, before moving to Quercus to head up its fiction and non-fiction mass-market lists, as well as establishing her own.
She will join S&S UK on 2nd December and report to the managing director of the adult publishing division, Suzanne Baboneau.
Baboneau said Dickinson would “fit in beautifully” at S&S UK and would bring her “creative and managerial flair” to the “thriving” S&S fiction department. “In Jo we are extremely fortunate to have a major player joining us, someone with a wealth of experience who has fostered superb author and agent relationships over many years, is warmly admired and respected and is, above all, a passionate reader and instinctive editor,” Baboneau said.
Dickinson has described the opportunity as “too exciting to turn down”. She added: “I have long admired Simon & Schuster’s publishing and their authors and I can’t wait to join the team in December. I am obviously very sad to be leaving the Quercus stable and I look forward to watching their continued growth in the years to come.”
In July, S&S editorial director of fiction Maxine Hitchcock was appointed as publishing director at Michael Joseph.
