John Murray is publishing a biting satire on modern politics by Frankie Boyle called Your Guide to Hell following a "hotly contested" auction.
Senior commissioning editor Kate Hewson bought world rights to the book, designed "to guide us through this political wasteland we all call home", from Hannah Chambers at Chambers Management to publish in hardback, e-book and audio download in October 2017.
A mixture of Boyle's Guardian columns and new material, the book promises to "cut through the bullshit to give a savage, hilarious, and at heart, utterly humane political commentary about the world we live in". It will talk about Nigel Farage as "a sort of end of level boss for Freudian psychoanalysis", spending billions on Trident as "like convincing a tramp to buy a bazooka", and America as a country that has gone "from The West Wing to a sitcom where the incidental music involves a tuba".
Hewson called him "a brilliant political voice for our times". The announcement follows the first episode of Boyle's BBC Two series, "Frankie Boyle’s New World Order", a politics show dissecting current affairs, which aired last night (June 8th).
"I’ve always been a fan of Frankie’s, but when he started writing for the Guardian a few years ago I was blown away by how incisive, complex and humane his pieces were – as well as very, very funny, of course," said Hewson. "We’re very excited to be publishing this book, and think he is a brilliant political voice for our times."
