Keates leaves Orion after 15 years

Anthony Keates has left Orion after more than 15 years at the company to pursue a freelance career.

Keates, who was most recently marketing and publicity director for the Orion fiction list, departed the company in mid-December after “about a year” of thinking about moving on.

He said: “I have loved my time at Orion, but now is a very fertile time for the industry. I personally think the industry needs to work differently. Historically the relationship has been with publishers, retailers and consumers, and that’s really changing now.”

Keates said he had already started work on a number of projects.
