Orion is planning a “spectacular” event in London to mark the launch of Anthony Horowitz’s new Sherlock Holmes’ novel, Moriarty.
Details are currently being kept secret, but the event is “sure to send social media mad” and will culminate in an event at Waterstones Piccadilly.
Moriarty, which takes place after the events of the Reichenbach Falls in the original Conan Doyle novels, will not feature Holmes as the central character.
The book will include a short story, titled "The Three Monarchs", which will be placed in a national newspaper around publication (23rd October), said Orion. Print coverage will also include a guide to the world of Sherlock Holmes, written by Horowitz for the Mail of Sunday magazine, and reviews in national newspapers and a number of women’s magazines.
Publication will follow the opening of the Museum of London’s Sherlock Holmes’ exhibition on 17th October, and Orion is working with the museum on a number of projects, including the opening talk in its events programme. Horowitz is also a spokesperson for the exhibition and will take part in radio and television interviews for the museum.
Radio appearances for Moriarty include Simon Mayo’s Drivetime on BBC Radio 2 and interviews, still to be confirmed, on BBC Radio 4 and Radio 5.
A major digital campaign will be launched on publication day to coincide with the London event.
Events are also being planned in Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast, and Horowitz will appear at the Way With Words Festival in Southwold in November.
The campaign for Moriarty began with a title reveal at London Book Fair this year, followed by a secret proof giveaway for press in July.
Moriarty will be released in hardback at £19.99 and e-book at £10.99.
