A programme of author talks, panel discussions, live drawings and "translation slams" has been announced by London Book Fair as part of this year’s Market Focus Poland.
Across the fair and beyond, an assortment of events aimed at "reflecting the full breadth of the Polish literary landscape", will showcase some of country’s "most celebrated writers, while providing unique insights into the Polish publishing market".
Curated by the British Council, the Cultural Programme will feature 12 Polish writers - including the Market Focus Author of the Day Olga Tokarczuk, Cross Media Author of the Day Andrzej Sapkowski, and writers Zygmunt Miłoszewski and Jacek Dehnel. These contemporary writers will explore themes such as crime writing in Poland, poetry in translation, equal opportunities in writing and reportage during the course of the fair.
The Professional Programme, organised by LBF and the Publishers Association, will present a series of events providing insight into the Polish publishing industry, while highlighting business opportunities and showcasing the market’s importance in the wider context of international publishing.
Some highlights from day one (14th March 2017) include a session on the publishing and distribution landscape of the Polish Book Market, and a session on the new trends in digital publishing. Day two (15th March) will see a session on the promotion of Polish authors and books, and a session on women's writing and day three (16th March) will see a session on writing history as fiction in 21st Century Poland, among others.
