Michael Joseph and Penguin Random House Children’s have jointly acquired How to be a Bawse: A Guide to S̶u̶r̶v̶i̶v̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶ Conquering Life by Canadian comedian and YouTube personality Lilly Singh.
The two acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) in print, electronic and audio formats, from Erin Malone at WME agency. US rights were acquired by Ballantine Books and Canadian rights by Doubleday Canada.
PRH said it wanted to pool experts across divisions, and across children’s and adult markets, to "make sure we can reach all her fans", because of Singh's "widespread audience". There will only be one edition of the book.
Singh, known by her YouTube username IISuperwomanII, has found worldwide fame through her comedy videos on YouTube, with over nine million subscribers to her channel.
Singh's debut aims to teach readers how to be their own "bawse", defined as "a person who exudes confidence and reaches goals".
The book is inspired by Singh's own experiences and life achievements, and sets out to prove that "becoming a bawse requires hard work and dedication – and that there are no shortcuts to success".
The YouTube clip of Singh announcing her debut on Friday's "The Tonight Show" (22nd July) with Jimmy Fallon has already amassed over half a million views.
How to be a Bawse: A Guide to S̶u̶r̶v̶i̶v̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶ Conquering Life is scheduled for publication in March 2017.
