A funeral for award-winning crime author Clare Dunkel, published under the name Mo Hayder, will be held later this month.
The writer died on 28th July from motor neurone disease, it was announced last week, with the trade paying tribute to her “extraordinary” character and her skills as “a brilliant storyteller”.
Her husband Bob Randall has announced that the funeral will take place on 12th August between 12pm and 2pm at Oak Chapel, Cheltenham Crematorium, Bouncers Lane, Prestbury, GL52 5JT. There will be another opportunity to celebrate the author’s life at the Rising Sun Hotel, Cleeve Hill, between 2pm and 4pm on 12th August
The service will also be streamed live and made available for 28 days after the funeral. Anyone wanting to attend the funeral, the drinks afterwards, or to watch the funeral virtually should email Randall on abyss911@yahoo.co.uk with details of anyone they will be travelling with.
He asked that no flowers be sent but anyone wishing to give a donation can contribute to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Randall wrote: “We all loved Clare in our own unique way, and in return were privileged to feel her love. I hope to see you physically or digitally on the day if you feel you would like to share our last goodbye.”
Writing as Hayder, Dunkel published 10 novels with Transworld's Bantam Press over the past 21 years garnering various awards. She recently turned her attention from crime fiction to speculative thrillers with a switch from long-time publisher Bantam Press to Century, under the pen-name Theo Clare.
