Children’s authors Jackie Morris and Nicola Davies are organising two storytelling boat trips to Ramsey Island, off the coast of South Wales.
“Nicola and I will be taking people away from it all, across Ramsey Sound to Ramsey Island and around the wonderful coastline, so rich with birdlife and seals, and always the hope of sighting the harbour porpoise,” said Morris. “As we move around the coast we will be weaving stories around the island, and with luck and fair weather Nic will sing to the seals. Seals love music.”
She added: “Our job description should be to work with our imaginations and to bear witness. Nicola Davies does this so well in all of her work.”
Signed copies of Morris’ books can be bought from the nearby Solva Woollen Mill, and Morris said she will bring copies to anyone on the boat trips who orders them in advance.
Both Morris and Davies have written several books about nature. Morris, who is based in Pembrokeshire, is the author of several picture books for children, including the most recent The Seal Children (Otter-Barry Books).
Davies is a zoologist and the author of titles such as A First Book of Nature and Tiny: The Invisible World of Microbes (Walker Books). She also launched a campaign last week to draw attention to government’s decision to not give safe haven to 3,000 unaccompanied Syrian children by asking people to draw a picture of an empty chair.
The boat trips will take place on 28th May and anyone wishing to take part can book through the Falcon Boats company. Punters will be sent the exact details of where the trip will go once they have bough their tickets.
