Independent bookshop Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights in Bath is engaging Lizzy Stewart as an ‘illustrator in residence’ during this year’s Bath Children’s Literature Festival.
For the week starting 3rd October, Stewart will base herself in the shop, giving “people the chance to see what she’s up to”, said owner Nic Bottomley.
“The idea, which we conceived with Lizzy’s agent Suresh Ariaratnam, was to give her space in the shop where she can continue her work as an illustrator,” he said. “People will be able to see what she’s working on at the moment.”
Stewart will carry on with her normal illustration work, as well as do some spin-off drawings from her recent book There’s a Tiger in the Garden (Quarto), and host a story session for pre-schoolers.
She has also created a new poster for the shop (pictured) marking her period as illustrator in residence.
Bath Children’s Literature Festival takes place this year between 1st-9th October and authors taking part include David Walliams, Chris Riddell, Malorie Blackman and Liz Pichon.
Bottomley said he will consider hosting illustrator sessions in the future, depending on the success of Stewart’s residency.
