Michael Neil has been appointed as the new business director of books at W H Smith.
He starts in the new role today (11th March).
Neil replaces Jackie Wing, the former business director of books at WH Smith, who has moved over to become the director of general merchandise for the retailer.
Neil was most recently the commercial director of HMV. Before that he was commercial director at Waterstones, leaving shortly after the chain was sold to Russian oligarch Alexander Mamut in June 2011. Prior to that, Neil lead Bertrams wholesaler.
During his time as the commercial director of HMV, the company grew book sales by refocusing its core offer back onto "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll".
