An unpublished picture book by the late Maurice Sendak has been discovered, Publishers Weekly reports.
Presto and Zesto in Limboland, co-authored by Sendak and collaborator Arthur Yorinks, was discovered in the late artist's files by Lynn Caponera, president of the Maurice Sendak Foundation. The manuscript is complete, and there are illustrations. The project is said to date back 20 years, and was never published because Sendak became distracted by another book.
Michael de Capua, Sendak's long-time editor and publisher, described it as "a miracle to find this buried treasure in the archives."
Michael de Capua Books/HarperCollins US will publish in autumn next year, according to PW. Yorinks, who also collaborated with Sendak on The Miami Giant (1995) and Mommy? (2006) has made minor revisions to the text to prepare it for publication.
UK publication details have not yet been released.
Sendak, whose most famous book was Where the Wild Things Are, died in 2012.
