Nick Clegg is publishing a guide to stopping Brexit with The Bodley Head this October.
The book, both "pragmatic manifesto" and "practical handbook", argues "there is nothing remotely inevitable about Brexit – except that it will be deeply damaging if it happens". He writes in the book that: "As all the commitments made by the campaigners for Brexit have proven to be false ... it is the democratic right of voters to review Brexit and to change their minds if they wish to."
Entitled How To Stop Brexit (And Make Britain Great Again), it will debunk "myths ... used by a powerful elite to justify Brexit in the face of all the evidence against it" and explain "step-by-step" how the "historic mistake" can be reversed - and how the country can be reunited in the process. Publication is scheduled for 5th October.
The project follows on from Clegg's memoir with The Bodley Head, Politics: Between the Extremes, a book that was pushed back last year to the autumn in order to include a "full Brexit analysis" while also providing a "frank" account of his experiences as leader of the Liberal Democrats from 2007 and as deputy prime minister from 2010 to 2015.
Since losing his seat as the Liberal Democrat MP for Sheffield Hallam in 2017, Clegg has continued his campaigning work to oppose Brexit, as well as championing other liberal causes such as international drugs reform.
Society of Authors president Philip Pullman yesterday also called for another EU referendum on Twitter since 16-18 years olds were not consulted (unlike in the Scottish referendum). He said: "given that Brexit will affect them more than anyone else, we should have a new referendum to include them. Why not?"
