Virago's Sarah Savitt, deputy publisher at Virago, announced at today's Hachette Showcase (6th March) she has signed You’re on an Airplane, an "irreverent, frank, laugh-out-loud" memoir by indie film actress Parker Posey, to publish in October.
In it, Posey will open up about the art of acting, life on the set, and the realities of fame. She will explore her relationships with directors Christopher Guest, after starring in his mockumentaries like "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show", and Woody Allen, recently appearing in his latest two films, "Café Society" and "Irrational Man".
She will also share her approach to everyday life, including her love of pottery, sewing, collage, yoga and cooking. Advice from her Greenwich Village therapist Mildred Newman will also feature in the book.
Virago acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Caspian Dennis at Abner Stein on behalf of Chelsey Heller at Aevitas Creative Management. Blue Rider Press will publish You’re on an Airplane in the US.
"I have always admired Parker Posey’s wit, intelligence, integrity and sense of style, and her wonderful memoir embodies all of these qualities: she is a terrific writer," said Savitt. "This will be an absolute treat for Posey’s existing fans and will win her many new ones. It might even inspire you to take up pottery.
"Here at Virago we’ve enjoyed publishing terrific memoirs by other great performers, including Tracey Thorn, Carrie Brownstein and Lauren Graham, and I am proud that Parker Posey has joined our list."
