Union Books editorial director Rosalind Porter is set to join Oneworld as editorial director of fiction.
Porter will leave her position at the Aurum Publishing Group literary imprint on the 13th September and takes up her post at Bloomsbury-based independent Oneworld on the 1st October. She will report to Oneworld’s publisher, Juliet Mabey, and focus on acquiring literary fiction and literature in translation, along with some narrative non-fiction titles.
Porter has been at Union Books since its launch in 2011.
Mabey said: “With Ros’ stellar track record at Granta magazine, where she edited work by Eleanor Catton, Rick Moody, Jhumpa Lahiri and Nicola Barker…and Vintage, where her acquisitions included the The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings, and with her great eye for literary talent, I can't imagine us finding a more engaged and passionate acquiring editor. In addition to broadening the range of our fiction publishing, she will also bring her commissioning experience to expand our Espresso e-singles list.”
Porter said the opportunity to return to fiction and to build on Oneworld’s “distinctive” fiction list was “irresistible”. She said: “I’m delighted to be joining a brilliant team at a time when the company is expanding in such interesting ways. I simply can’t wait to start.”
