Profile Books has signed a new title from Royal Society Science Book Prize shortlisted author and mathematician Eugenia Cheng.
The publisher has acquired world rights to Cheng's Thinking Better: The Art of Logic in an Illogical World, which "harnesses the power of mathematical logic to help us cut through the chaos of the modern world".
Profile Books editor Nick Sheerin said: "The world is complicated, but Eugenia’s new book makes it easier. Thinking Better helps us spot the logical flaws in what people are telling us, and is full of unexpected ideas for improving the way we think. Eugenia is a brilliant communicator and a globe-trotting, maths-popularising sensation, and it’s exciting to see her bringing the timeless methods of mathematical logic to a timely survival guide for our post-truth world."
Cheng said: "I’m excited to be continuing my wonderful relationship with Profile. It’s rewarding to work with a publisher who demonstrably cares about me and my work at a personal level, and who helps me keep developing as an author. The way they support and look after me is everything an author could wish for."
Cheng is author of How to Bake Pi: Easy Recipes for Understanding Complex Maths (Profile) and is currently on the 2017 Royal Society Science Book Prize shortlist for Beyond Infinity: An Expedition to the Outer Limits of the Mathematical Universe (Profile).
Thinking Better will be published in Summer 2018.
