George R R Martin's UK publisher HarperCollins has said "nothing has been finalised regarding the publication or the date" of the author's much anticipated sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, after reports surfaced that it would be published in March next year.
A listing on Amazon France, which has now been taken down, had indicated the sixth book in the series, The Winds of Winter, would be due out on the 9th March 2017. However, both Martin's UK and US publishers have said this is not the case.
HarperCollins UK said in a statement: “Nothing has been finalised regarding the publication or the date”.
US publisher Random House told EW: “We support George RR Martin as he works hard to finish The Winds of Winter. Any on-sale dates currently listed online for the novel are incorrect. Once we have a publication date for The Winds of Winter, the world will know.”
The latest book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, was published in 2011 and fans have been eagerly anticipating the next instalment ever since.
Earlier this year, Martin said that The Winds of Winter was "months away" from completion. It was originally due to be published in March 2016 to coincide with the sixth series of the TV show. In his latest blog post about the book, Martin said he was "still working" on the book and had "no announcement to make on that front".
Meanwhile, an illustrated edition of A Game of Thrones, the first book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, will be published in October to mark the 20th anniversary of the book.
