Puffin, part of Penguin Random House, is set to publish a ninth book in Chris Bradford’s ‘Young Samurai’ series following demand from fans.
The Return of the Warrior, which can be read as a standalone story, will publish in June 2018 to coincide with the 10-year anniversary of the first books. The story will chart Jack Fletcher’s return to pre-civil war England and his quest to find his missing sister with the help of samurai girl Akiko and warrior monk Yori.
Assistant editor Tig Wallace acquired world English language and electronic rights from Charlie Viney at The Viney Agency.
Wallace said: “I’m delighted to publish this new title in a series that has so much love from readers and booksellers. Chris is a natural at creating exciting stories and standout characters – I’m looking forward to seeing fans’ reactions and to introduce new readers to his writing.”
In total, the series has sold more than a million copies worldwide and been translated into 21 languagues, according to Puffin. It has received over 20 book awards and nominations, including shortlists for the Red House Children’s Book Award, Independent Booksellers Award (twice) and the Carnegie Medal.
Young Samirai: The Return of the Warrior will publish in June 2018, priced £7.99.
