Puffin Books will next month publish a new version of Jill Murphy’s The Worst Witch to tie-in with a CBBC adaptation.
The new edition will be released on 5th January ahead of the airing of the first TV episode on 11th January. The adaptation stars Amanda Holden, Kacey Ainsworth and Nicola Stephenson.
Editor Helen Levene said: ‘I’m thrilled that there’s a new TV series of The Worst Witch. Jill Murphy’s timeless adventures of accident-prone but lovable Mildred Hubble are genuinely funny and hugely entertaining, and it’s wonderful to see them brought to life on CBBC. Parents will no doubt remember Mildred and her hopeless cat, Tabby, with fond affection and now there’s a whole new audience of children to introduce them to, and they are sure to love the series just as much.”
The Worst Witch, about a trainee witch, was first published in 1974 by Allison & Busby. Six further books were released and the series has sold more than four million copies worldwide, according to PRH Children’s.
