Chris Riddell is publishing a book revealing his “incredible journey” as children’s laureate.
The illustrator, who hands on the baton to another laureate in Hull today, details his two-year experience of the role in Travels with My Sketchbook. It will be published by Macmillan Children's Books in hardback on 13th July retailing at £16.99.
The book contains train doodles, events and prizes in the children’s book industry, early sketches and illustrations from his books, political sketches for the Observer as well as portraits, birthday sketches and Christmas cards.
A Macmillan spokesperson said: “After two years travelling the length and breadth of the UK, visiting schools, libraries and festivals, and meeting thousands of children, Travels with My Sketchbook provides a glimpse of the incredible journey Chris has been on whilst children’s laureate."
The daily record of his experiences has been "lovingly curated by his daughter Katy", who is illustrating the relaunched Pongwiffy series by Kaye Unmasky for S&S Children’s.
Riddell will hand over to the next children’s laureate in Hull, City of Culture 2017, this afternoon.
