Rough Guides has launched a new podcast series, The Rough Guide to Everywhere, sharing untold travel stories and featuring guests including Ruby Wax, Dervla Murphy and Meik Wiking in conversation.
The podcast, also starring "eccentric unknowns", will be hosted by Rough Guides travel editor Greg Dickinson and embrace the company's “tell it like it is” attitude and conversational tone.
The first episode features two people who have cycled huge lengths of the planet, 50 years apart: travel writer Dervla Murphy will share stories from her 1963 solo cycle from Ireland to India, disclosing how she accidentally became an arms trader in Afghanistan, and 20-something adventurer Charlie Walker will tell of the scrapes and psychological shifts he experienced during a four-year cycle round the world.
Dickinson said: "We've been making travel guidebooks at Rough Guides for 35 years now, and we've got it down to a fine art. But I wanted to make this podcast as a home for all of the untold travel stories. The stuff you tell your friends in the pub when you return from a trip, but wouldn't dream of publishing in a guidebook.”
He added: “Our in-house editors are pretty keen travellers themselves. They've been busy taking recordings on the road, from South Dakota's buffalo round-up to the street markets of Rajasthan. There are no boundaries to where the show will go next; it really is The Rough Guide to Everywhere."
A new podcast will be released fortnightly available via iTunes, Soundcloud and the Podcasts app, as well as on roughguides.com.
