HarperCollins Children’s Books has hired Sarah Hughes, currently publishing director at Egmont, as its fiction publisher.
Hughes will lead the fiction team in the newly-created role, which publishes authors such as David Walliams. She will start in September and report to publisher Rachel Denwood.
Her team will include fiction publishing director Nick Lake, editorial director Harriet Wilson and commissioning editor Lizzie Clifford.
Hughes said: “Joining the fabulous team at HarperCollins was an offer I couldn’t refuse. I’ve long admired their author-led, child-centred publishing and the ambition and passion that drives everything they do.”
Denwood added: “Sarah is an outstanding children’s fiction publisher. She brings a wealth of experience and an exceptional track record. She is the ideal person to lead our fantastically talented fiction team to even greater success.”
Hughes published Kevin Brooks and Max Brallier during her time at Egmont. She previously worked at Puffin, with writers like Eoin Colfer, Rick Riordan and Jill Murphy.
