US publisher Shambhala Publications is to acquire Berkeley-based Rodmell Press, an independent publisher of books on yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and aikido.
Founded in 1988, Rodmell has 40 titles and specialises in yoga and well-being books.
The acquisition—prompted by the retirement of Rodmell's founder-owners Linda Cogozzo and Donald Moyer—is said to be a “significant addition” to Shambhala’s already “vibrant” yoga list, which includes titles by Sarah Powers, Richard Rosen, Anne Cushman, Rusty Wells, Linda Sparrowe and Kino McGregor.
Shambhala president Nikko Odiseos said: “Rodmell and Shambhala’s visions are perfectly complementary. With our dynamic direct-to-consumer outreach, as well as our global distribution through Penguin Random House, we are excited to introduce these incredible books and authors to a whole new set of readers.”
Currently distributed by PGW, Rodmell titles will be distributed by Penguin Random House under the Shambhala logo from 1st August.
Shambhala Publications’ headquarters is in Boulder, Colorado, and its imprints include its creative living brand Roost Books (under its publisher Sara Bercholz, a co-owner along with her brother Ivan Bercholz), Snow Lion, Trumpeter, and Weatherhill.
